From 15th to 17th of November the European Commission is hosting the third edition of European Development Days in Strasbourg. In 2008 this high-level event for development cooperation professionals focuses on the local dimension and the implementation of MDGs. We look forward to greeting you at our stand at the Development Village or join us at side events of the forum for lively discussions and debates. To arrange a meeting, please send an e-mail to Anna.Nikolaeva@swisscontact.net with day and time preference, or call +49 711 1839 732.

After Brussels and Lisbon, it is Strasbourg’s turn to host the third edition of the European

Development Days. These days have become an event not to be missed on the European calendar and an essential arena for debate on the issues of cooperation and development. The informal and open nature of the 2008 edition is intended to demonstrate the ability of the EC to promote inclusive multi-stakeholder dialogues. As such, the European Development Days serve as a natural platform for launching new initiatives to enhance the synergies we experience in our everyday work.

At the centre of the discussions this year is the local dimension of development cooperation and implementation of the Millennium Development Goals in particular. Access to basic services such as education, health and drinking water, debates on the most effective delivery methods and strategies of the new donors are on the agenda at more than 20 workshops that will take place under the aegis of EDD.

Among others the most prominent speakers and panellist will be:

  •      José Manuel Barroso
         European Commission - DEV, President
  •      Louis Michel

European Commission, European Commissioner for Development

  •      Jean Ping
         African Union Commission, President
  •      Jeffrey Sachs

         Columbia University
