EC tourism project in Vietnam – Instructional skills training kick off

Swisscontact delivered the first training course on instructional skills at the School of Tourism and Hotel in Ho Chi Minh City in July’08. This training is a part of an EC-funded Vietnam Human Resources Development in Tourism (HRDT) project.

The training programme was designed and developed base on preliminary Traning Need Analysis at 4 key tourism schools. It mainly concentrated on 5 topics: write terminal performance objectives, develop performance guides, demonstrate a skill, plan practice activities; and develop/use of visual aids.

The training focused on training methodology to teach practical skill, and very little on such for theory. Learner-centered method as well as other appropriate methodology tools like direct and indirect teaching, work assignments, coaching and micro teaching are used during the training to increase interactivity and course’s effectiveness.

Participants who came from different schools were very satisfied with the course - “We would like to express our sincere thanks to instructors, Vietnam National Administration of Tourism and Swisscontact. The HRDT Project teaches us many useful lessons so that we can learn from each others and experience to make our future teaching better and more attractive to our students. This will help them to easily find jobs after graduation.  The instructors as well as training topics and teaching methodologies are excellent. We desire to attend other similar courses”By end of 2008, this training programme will also be conducted in Hanoi, Hue and Vungtau for other targeted groups.
