Impressions Roundtable Remittances in Berlin

In his opening speech Johannes Schwegler, Managing Director of Swisscontact Germany, emphasized on the importance of remittances for developing countries and encouraged all partners to act jointly. The symposium should contribute to help bridging not only cultural differences but also differences between corporate and organisational cultures.

Karin Kortmann, parlamentary state secretary of the BMZ, thanked everyone involved in the organization of this concise event. She also accentuated the need to achieve a stronger political coherence by better coordinating the work of different political resorts.

Professor Breidenbach (Project Humboldt-Viadrina-School of Governance) brought one of the key findings to the point: The excertion of political influence and regulation plays not only a central role for money transfers but also for the transmission of knowledge. Therefore one of the main goals must be a close cooperation and a better coherence between security, finance and domestic policies.
