Background – Although poor households in central Tanzania do have possibilities to increase their income, it is difficult for them to gain access to the market for their products. On the other hand entrepreneurs and exporters from the private sector consistently complain about the unstable supply and the bad quality of the products. The program for advancement of rural income connects production units in Tanzania with international companies from the private sector to improve the poor population’s conditions of living and to increase the companies’ business volume. We optimize the value chain, improve the quality and intensify the relation between producers and companies.

The project – We are focusing amongst other things on producers from the sectors of agriculture, the processing of agricultural products and mining. The small production units are normally property of relatively poor, rural households who profit most from the project. Our first aim is to establish a private non-profit organisation in Tanzania which is recognized as a partner for projects advancing the poor population. In addition we are going to create a number of model cooperation projects to convince further companies. It is important for us to create a situation which enables both sides to profit from the cooperation.
