Bolivia

Sustainable tourism

Regional advancement of tourism – In Bolivia only Lake Titicaca is renowned as an international tourist attraction. Other comparable beauties of the Andes get relatively little attention. Bolivia’s great tourism potential is limited additionally by bad accessibility, constricted infrastructure and the often low standard of accommodation. Our project supports the Sucre-Potosí-Uyuni region’s efforts to create an attractive tourist destination. The foundation will be a regional tourist organisation, where public and private stakeholders develop a unified tourism policy agenda. To improve the quality of services, we helped set up an educational program. All participating groups, including tour guides, museum employees and restaurant or hotel staff can participate in these courses. We also use informational events on tourism to broaden public interest, promoting regional sites through exhibitions, a website and advertising campaigns.

Partners – Our partners are institutions of the public administration and of the private sector such as the Ministry of Tourism, municipal agencies, travel agencies, local associations and clubs, tour guide companies, restaurants, hotels, museums, universities, craftmakers and public transportation employees.

Extension of the modern approach – After nearly two years, we have successfully completed the initial pilot phase. All involved organisations are convinced that solo attempts in concurrence to the neighbouring states circumvent success. The Bolivian government seeks to cooperate across political borders as it develops its tourism industry. We are planning to launch the tourism organisation alongside apprenticeship programs and continued public relations work.
