Support our projects in Ecuador

Since 2002 we have been developing an apprenticeship program in Western Africa. Building on our experiences with similar initiatives in Mali and Burkina Faso, the Benin project has been a great success from the very beginning. The project is financed by a national education fund and supported by the Benin-based professional associations. So far we have provided continuing education to 2.400 teachers through short courses. More than 1.000 trainees received education in small manual-labor enterprises such as moped engineering, tailoring, barber craft and air condition mechanics. Today, we offer technical and general education in ten cities.

In 2005 the Benin Ministry of Education and local business associations officially recognized the moped traineeship as the first dual apprenticeship in Benin. Our goal is the establishment of a government-sustainable apprenticeship system. By advancing the education of trainees in different technical professions we increase the youths’ opportunities for economic independence.
